Nokia E62 Business Phone for Cingular

All I have to say is, ABOUT FREAKING TIME. This phone was announced in 2005 and I saw a live version at CES in January, but it has sorta fallen off the radar since. Except for the FCC Approval, no news until today. Engadget is reporting that the Nokia Blackberry killer will be hitting states side soon. The device will supposedly not feature UMTS or Wifi (in the Cingular flavor), which is lame, but expected. It should also sport a wide range of wireless email services, including: Good, MS Direct Push, Blackberry Connect (which I demoed on the Nokia 9300 and wasn’t too impressed with) an of course ExpressMail (powered by Seven). One really cool thing about this phone though is that apparently there is a USB hardware profile to support Mass Storage device. Cant wait!

New Kind of Traffic Signal for Stop Lights

Oakland County, Michigan will be seeing some new left turn traffic lights in the upcoming years. These new lights will feature 4 lights, instead of the current 3 light models. Rather than flashing the red to allow left hand turn motorists to yield and turn, the flashing yellow will indicate that “motorists are allowed to turn left when available gaps in oncoming traffic are present”. Working in Bloomfield Township, I have seen a few intersections that have new funny lights installed, but not hanging and activated. Looks like these are what they are. Guess it’s better, but the stoplight just looks so funny!

Click for animated (*note it’s in real time, lame I know).

President Says "No SEC Rules for You"

Now, I’m no accountant, but I do know what GAAP is and this seems really fishy to me. According to MSNBC, on May 5, 2006, the president signed a memo granting John Negroponte the authority to excuse publicly traded companies from their usual accounting and securities obligations. Apparently section 13[b][3][A] of the Securities Exchange Act of 1934 amendment allows for this. Examples of these kind of obligations include, but are not limited to:

  • Keeping accurate books, records and accounts
  • Maintaining systems of internal controls

iWeb 1.1.1 Update

Apple today released iWeb Update 1.1.1 weighing in at at hefty 88.8 MB. The only description given, however, is that it addresses problems with syncing up to .Mac. Sounds like a pretty heavy update just for some minor .Mac fixes…

Nike+ with Apple

Today Apple announced a new partnership with Nike. A new product, called the Nike+iPod Sport Kit, which not only keeps track of your important workout information (Distance Traveled, Time, etc.), there is audible feedback that from the looks of the Nike advertisement is great.

Update: Even more exciting is the “Workouts” tab on the right. Artists are going to be able to make timed workout mixes. How cool!

Lenovo PCs Will Be Banned from Classified Work

The State Department declared on Thursday that 16k computer they bought from Lenovo will be banned from use on ANY classified information for fear of the Chinese Government getting hold of any of the information. Are you freaking serious! Honestly, the people in office that come up with these ‘ideas’ don’t even know what they are talking about. In fact, Lenovo/IBM is a leader in Embedded Security Subsystems (TPM) technology to ensure data security. But whatever, freaking moronic.

Sony UX Pics

After Sony announced a mystery program to generate similar hype to Microsoft’s Origami project, it appears jkOnTheRun has some great pictures of the device. Apparently this beast will have Bluetooth, WLAN and WWAN wireless capabilities. That’s pretty exciting and if Sony gets this thumb style keyboard in conjunction with what looks like a thumb stick on the top right, this could be one killer UMPC.

Google Groupware

You know what I’ve always wondered? Since Google has GMail, and GMail is POP3 compliant, why haven’t they made a special GMail Viewer App? The main problem today with GMail is the use of Labels. Different from folders, labels allows for multiple tags. I would so much rather use a GMail view program, that was linked to the labels, address book, and maybe even calendar/task application. It could be the Google equivalent to Groupware! I mean, GMail has a Beta going on right now for hosting domain email, what a perfect way to integrate it all.
